Can I Use Trending TikTok Sounds in a Business Ad?

You hear the same sound ten times in one scroll, and you think it would be perfect for your next ad. Trending TikTok sounds are tempting because people already know them.

A business usually can't use a trending TikTok sound in an ad, unless the sound is in TikTok's Commercial Music Library. TikTok's Commercial Music Library page (updated July 2025) says: "Businesses cannot use the general music library for commercial usage." The Commercial Music Library is free, but it stays on TikTok and never says your name.

The safe way to get this is a song written for you. At 30 Second Ad Factory, our done-for-you ad team, we write a catchy song about your business, an AI singer sings it, and we turn it into a 3D cartoon video ad. You approve it. You never touch an AI tool.

Key takeaways

  • TikTok says businesses cannot use its general music library for commercial use, and it lists video ads as commercial.
  • TikTok's Commercial Music Library is the free option for businesses, with 1 million songs.
  • A library track stays on TikTok, and each track has its own Usable Placements list.
  • Meta says Instagram's music library is for personal use, and that Sound Collection can be used for ads.
  • A song written for you says your name, and you can use that ad anywhere.

Can a business use trending TikTok sounds in an ad?

Usually not. A business cannot use trending TikTok sounds from the general music library in an ad, by TikTok's own rule. TikTok's Commercial Music Library page tells businesses to use the Commercial Music Library for video ads, branded content and organic posts instead.

The rule is not only about paid ads. TikTok's list also covers organic content (regular posts you don't pay to show), including a duet, react or stitch with someone else's video.

The General Music Library is the main catalog that personal TikTok users see. TikTok's blog says its songs are not pre-cleared for commercial content, meaning not approved ahead of time. It defines commercial content as any content posted by a brand.

The Commercial Music Library is TikTok's separate set of songs and sounds for business use. TikTok's help page (updated July 2025) says it holds 1 million songs and is free for businesses.

What matters is where the sound lives. TikTok's blog says the library's Top Music view ranks tracks by popularity, so a track can be popular and still sit inside the library.

Does a personal account get around TikTok's music rule?

No. TikTok's blog warns against using the General Music Library through a personal account to promote your business, and it says those songs are not available for use by any brand or business.

If you do run your shop from a personal account, you can still reach library music by choosing Commercial Sounds in the Sounds menu.

What does TikTok say about each sound source?

TikTok says businesses cannot use the General Music Library for commercial use, and that the Commercial Music Library is free for them. It recommends only library music for posts that promote a business. The table below shows each sound source, with a song made for you added as the last row.

An original sound is audio that came from someone's own post, not from a music library. It can trend just like a hit song, which is why it catches people out. TikTok's Support page treats it the same way as other music from outside the library.

The Music Usage Confirmation is a statement you agree to when you post. TikTok says it applies to an original sound or music from outside the library, when the content disclosure setting is on.

The confirmation itself asks you to confirm one of two things. Either the post has no copyright-protected music, or you got and paid for every license the music needs. If you cannot confirm either one, TikTok says not to accept, and it warns that the post might be taken down if you post anyway.

One more thing to check sits inside TikTok Ads Manager, the tool you use to set up ads. Its video editor page (updated May 2025) lists a Trending category, which it calls current hot music. That page does not say whether those tracks are in the library, so look the track up in the library before you use it.

How do you check if a sound is in TikTok's Commercial Music Library?

You can check by opening the Commercial Music Library, setting your region, and searching for the sound or filtering by usable placements. Then read that track's Usable Placements, the list of platforms where it may be used, before you build anything around it.

Step 1: Check your account type

TikTok's how-to page (updated July 2026) says tapping Add Sound on a Business Account shows only Commercial Sounds. On a personal account, tap the Sounds button and choose Commercial Sounds from the dropdown.

Step 2: Open the library

In the app, tap the + sign, then tap Add sound. On a computer, TikTok's blog says to open Creative Center, TikTok's free site for ad ideas and tools, and find the Commercial Music Library under Creative Tools. TikTok's web music page showed an error when we checked on November 6, 2026. If it fails for you too, start in the app.

Step 3: Set the region

Select the region where your campaign will run. TikTok's how-to page says this shows you the music available in that region.

Step 4: Filter and search

Filter by usable placements, themes, genre, mood and duration, or use the search box. TikTok shows up to 10,000 sounds at a time, so search and filters are how you reach the rest. If you have a trending song in mind, search its name here first.

Step 5: Check Usable Placements

Usable Placements is the list of platforms where a track may be used. TikTok's Commercial Music Library terms say that if you use the Creative Center web version, you must follow that list. Any platform not on it counts as not permitted unless you first get approval from the people who own the song.

Step 6: Look for the Premium label

The same terms say tracks marked Premium may carry an extra fee. TikTok shows that fee when you buy the ad, so check for the label before you plan your budget.

Once you have a track, our guide on how to make a TikTok ad with a song covers the rest of the build.

Can a TikTok Commercial Music Library track run on Facebook and Instagram?

Usually not, because TikTok's Commercial Music Library stays on TikTok and Meta's Sound Collection stays on Meta's apps. TikTok's terms say commercial use of a library track outside TikTok is not permitted without separate permission from the song's owners.

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has a similar split. Meta's help page on Instagram's music library says that library is intended for personal, non-commercial use, and that certain business accounts do not get access. It says those accounts may be able to use Sound Collection, with over 14,000 songs and sounds (as of November 2026) that can be used for commercial purposes such as ads. Meta's Sound Collection Terms (last modified March 2022) allow use on Meta's products only.

So one ad on TikTok and Reels can mean two music picks and two edits. Here is how the options compare for a small business.

Only the last row gives you a finished ad that says your name and can run anywhere. For a busy owner, that makes a 30 Second Ad Factory song ad the best option.

What can you borrow from a trend without using the sound?

You can borrow the format of a trend without borrowing its sound. The format means the setup, the pacing and the way the words sit on screen. Planoly's guide to trending sounds makes the same point: most viewers follow the visuals, so the idea can carry over with different audio.

Here are a few formats to try, with lines you can adapt:

  • The POV caption (a plumber). "POV: your sink picked Saturday night to quit."
  • The before and after (a roofer). "Before the storm. After [Your Name] Roofing."
  • The list of three (a gym). "Three reasons you skipped leg day. One place that won't judge."
  • The caught-you line (a bakery). "You said one donut. We saw you."

Keep the sound on, though. In a 2021 Kantar study for TikTok, 88% of TikTok users said sound is essential to the TikTok experience, and 73% said they would stop and look at ads on TikTok with audio. Pick a sound made for your business.

When does a song written for you beat a library track?

A song written for you beats a library track when you want the ad to say your name and run in more than one place. A library track only makes sense for a quick TikTok post today with no budget.

Say you run a roofing company in one town. You want the same ad on TikTok, on Facebook Reels and on your website.

With library music, you would pick one track for TikTok and another for Facebook. TikTok's terms keep commercial use inside TikTok, and Meta's keep it on Meta's products. Neither track would name your company.

Have a story like this? Get your song ad

Ad Factory is our done-for-you ad team, and every song ad order comes with an account there. You tell us about your business on a 5-minute form, and our team makes the ad. You assign and approve, and you never write a prompt or edit a video.

Every song ad follows one plan: a hook in the first 3 seconds, the story in the middle, and the offer with a clear next step at the end. The singing voice is AI, and it sounds like a pro in the style you pick. Every word is on screen, so the ad works with the sound off.

You get the finished ad in 72 hours, in a vertical size made for social media, with 1 round of remakes. The last frame shows your logo, offer and button. You own the ad, and you can use it in any ad, on your website, anywhere.

It is not the right buy for everyone:

  • You need something up today. A song ad takes 72 hours, so it will not fit a same-day post.
  • You want to join a joke this week. A song ad is a planned ad, not a quick reply to this week's joke.
  • You want someone to run your ads. We make the ad, and you or your ad manager run it.
  • You want a human singer. Our singing voice is AI, so we are not a fit if you need a real person singing.

Frequently asked questions

Does a short clip or an artist credit change TikTok's rule?

TikTok's Commercial Music Library page does not mention short clips or artist credits. It says businesses should use the library for all commercial TikTok activities, and video ads are on that list.

Does a Spark Ad get around the music rule?

TikTok's Spark Ads help page (updated June 2026) does not mention music rules. A Spark Ad is a TikTok ad that promotes an existing organic post, and TikTok's library page names both video ads and organic posts as activity that should use library music.

Can I use a Commercial Music Library track on my website or YouTube?

TikTok's Commercial Music Library terms say commercial use outside TikTok is not permitted unless you get separate permission from the song's owners. The terms name third party digital platforms, TV and radio as examples.

Can TikTok mute a Commercial Music Library sound later?

Yes. TikTok's Commercial Music Library terms say that if TikTok loses the right to offer a sound, it may take down videos that use the sound or mute the audio.

Is the singer in a song ad a real person?

No. The singing voice in 30 Second Ad Factory song ads is AI. Our team writes the song and makes the video, and you approve the ad.

The short version

Trending TikTok sounds from the general music library are off the table for a business ad, by TikTok's own rule. The Commercial Music Library is free and stays on TikTok. Meta's Sound Collection is free and stays on Meta's apps.

Neither one says your name, and neither one follows your ad to other places. If you are a busy owner, a done-for-you song ad from 30 Second Ad Factory is the best option. We write the song, an AI singer sings it, and we animate it. You approve it and own it.

We can't promise views or sales. You do get a finished ad that is yours.
