You have probably seen the little clay people in ads by now. A clay plumber chasing a drip.

Then you try to price one and get answers from a few dollars to tens of thousands. Here is what each route costs.

A 30-second claymation ad costs about $16 a month in AI tools if you make it yourself, about $52 from an AI clay seller on Fiverr, $97 from a done-for-you team like ours (often half price in our holiday sales), and from a $1,000 minimum to $25,000 or more at a stop motion studio.

The good news is you do not need a film budget. Below are prices we checked in November 2026, who does the work, how much of your time each option takes, and a free 30-second script.

Key takeaways

  • A monthly AI plan is not the price of an ad. Add a voice, an editor and your own hours.
  • A studio's $1,000 minimum is a project floor, not a quote for an ad.
  • Many cheap clay ads are made with AI, so ask before you pay.
  • Judge a test ad on calls and bookings, not views.

How much does a claymation ad cost in 2026?

In 2026, a 30-second claymation ad costs anywhere from about $16 a month in AI tools to $25,000 or more at a studio, because you are buying different things. Hand-made clay is priced in crew time: Levi's said in 2025 that 24 frames of work equal one second of ad. AI clay is priced in credits, and in your own hours if you do the work.

What is a claymation ad?

A claymation ad is a short video ad where the characters and sets look like modeling clay. Some are hand-made, with real clay moved a tiny bit for each photo. Many low-cost ones today are made with AI tools that copy the look.

Say you run a two-van plumbing shop and want one clay ad for a drain special. A studio is out on price. A tool looks cheapest, but you would be making the ad after hours, so your real choice is between managing a seller and handing the job to a team.

Price guides usually quote per finished minute. Beverly Boy Productions, a video studio, puts stop motion at about $1,000 to more than $10,000 a minute in its guide updated July 16, 2026, and adds that industry estimates sit closer to $50,000.

Our math on those figures is about $500 to $5,000 or more for 30 seconds, and about $25,000 at the top estimate. A minimum project, like the one at UK studio Kerrupt, can push a short ad above the low end.

A Clutch review of Kerrupt puts one stop motion toy ad at £450,000 (about $613,000). That job was not clay. It used a matching live-action set for a global campaign.

The freelancer listings showed us pounds and Hong Kong dollars on November 4, 2026, so we converted at that day's pound and Hong Kong dollar rates. Your screen may differ.

How much of your time does each claymation ad option take?

By our rough estimates, a studio takes several hours of calls and sign-offs, a freelancer takes 1 to 3 hours, and a DIY AI tool takes 6 to 10 hours for a first ad. A done-for-you team takes a 2-minute form plus your approval of the words and scenes.

Stop motion studio

A studio handles everything. The trade is patience. Levi's says its one-minute clay spot Clayman, released in 1995, took over three months, against three to five days to shoot a traditional ad.

Marketplace freelancer

A freelancer on Fiverr or ComeUp makes the video, but you are the project manager. You write the brief, answer questions, check drafts and decide how to spend your revisions.

The Fiverr and ComeUp listings we checked have little history, so look at past clay work, not only the star rating.

DIY AI clay tool: can you make one yourself?

Yes, but an AI video tool such as Morphic, Runway or Pika gives you credits, not a finished ad. You write the script, type the prompts, make each shot, throw away the bad ones, add a voice and edit it all together.

As of November 2026, Runway's pricing page says its $15-a-month Standard plan gives 625 credits, or about 52 seconds of Gen-4.5 video, at 12 credits a second. One 30-second pass uses about 58% of that, and one full remake goes over the plan.

Pika gives you more room. Its $10 Starter plan has 900 credits and a 5-second Pika 2.5 clip at 720p costs 20, which is about 7 full 30-second passes. Costlier models use far more: Seedance 2.5 at 720p is 122 credits a clip.

Free plans will not take you far. Pika Free has no monthly credits (packs only) and no commercial license, Runway Free gives 125 one-time credits, and Morphic Free gives up to 20 credits.

You also need a voice. ElevenLabs Starter is $6 a month ($1 for the first month) and lists a Commercial License, which the Free plan does not show.

Say you bill $75 an hour as a plumber and the ad takes you 6 hours. As an example, that is $450 of your time on top of the $16 plan.

Opus says its Agent Opus "runs the entire video pipeline for you", with no price on that page. You still set the prompts, judge every shot and take the blame for a bad ad.

If you like editing, a tool is the cheapest way to make lots of versions. If you do not, it can eat your weekends.

Done-for-you clay ad team

With 30 Second Productions, you fill in a 2-minute form, read the script and change any word, then look at a clay picture for each line and say yes or ask for changes. You never write a prompt or open an editing app.

Pro tip: Write your offer in one sentence before you pick a maker. It makes every option on this list cheaper and faster.

Is a cheap claymation ad real clay or made with AI?

A cheap claymation ad is often made with AI tools that copy the clay look, not with real clay. Hand-made stop motion uses real models that someone moves and photographs frame by frame, which takes far more labor.

You can often tell from the listing. One Fiverr gig lists its method as image to video with the Veo AI engine. One ComeUp gig says every object is real, with no 3D or AI, though it never mentions clay.

Neither is wrong. Ask any seller these three questions before you pay:

  • Is this hand-made with real clay, or made with AI? Which tool?
  • Can I see the script and the scenes before you make the full video?
  • Who owns the finished video, and can I use it in my ads?

Pro tip: Ask the first question in writing, before you order.

At 30 Second Productions, our claymation ads are made with AI tools for the clay pictures, the movement and the voice, and our team checks every video before it reaches you. They are not hand-made stop motion.

Which claymation ad option is best for your business?

The best option depends on whether you need real clay, enjoy editing or will manage a seller. Three questions will settle it.

  1. Do you need real clay? If yes, you want a studio. Budget four figures or more.
  2. Do you enjoy editing? If yes, try a tool. You will get the most versions for the money.
  3. Are you happy to write a brief and manage a seller? If yes, a Fiverr gig can work.

If you said no to all three, a done-for-you team is the fit.

That is what 30 Second Productions does. One 30-second clay ad is $97 one-time, and it is often half price in our holiday sales, so check the Claymation Ads page for today's price.

We write the script (or use your words), make a clay picture for each line as a storyboard, and add a calm, friendly voice. Every word goes on screen so the ad works with the sound off, and your logo and offer sit on the last scene.

The video comes in a vertical size for social media ads. It is ready about 24 hours after you approve the scenes, with 2 free rounds of changes to the scenes.

You own the video and can use it anywhere. If you are not happy within 30 days, you get a full refund. It is made in your own Ad Factory dashboard, where you can order more ads later.

We make the ad, but we do not run your ads. And if you want a real hand-made clay film for a big brand launch, a studio is the right call, not us.

Which businesses and offers suit claymation ads?

The clay look suits friendly local businesses that need to explain a problem people cannot easily see, like a slow leak, a messy tax return or a tooth that needs care. Clay makes a dull or awkward topic feel light.

Good fits include:

  • Home services: a clay drip or a clay raccoon in the attic is easy to picture.
  • Dentists and chiropractors: a clay tooth or spine shows the problem without anything scary.
  • Accountants and lawyers: a clay pile of papers makes a dry service feel human.
  • Gyms, bakeries and restaurants: one simple offer, like a free first class or a holiday box.

Skip the clay look when:

  • your offer depends on real before-and-after photos, like a med spa treatment.
  • buyers need to see the exact product, like a custom kitchen or jewelry.
  • the topic is sad or serious, like a funeral home.

What should a 30-second claymation ad script say?

A 30-second claymation ad script needs five short scenes: a problem people know, a clay moment that shows it, your fix, the good result, and one clear offer with your name.

Say you run Ridgeline Roofing. Here is an original script you can borrow and change.

TimeScene (clay picture)VoiceWords on screen
0 to 5 secondsA clay family at dinner. One clay raindrop falls into the soup."Plink. That sound means your roof needs a look."Hear a drip?
5 to 12 secondsA clay roofer climbs a ladder in the rain and lifts a loose shingle."Small leaks turn into big bills when water sits in the attic."Small leak, big bill
12 to 20 secondsThe roofer presses in a new shingle and the clay clouds roll away."Ridgeline Roofing finds the leak and fixes it right."Found. Fixed.
20 to 25 secondsThe family smiles at a dry table as sun comes through the window."Dry home. Calm dinner. No more pots on the floor."Dry home, calm dinner
25 to 30 secondsA clay sign on the roof shows the logo and the offer."Book a free roof check with Ridgeline Roofing."Free roof check. Book today.

The script does not list every service. One problem, one fix, one offer.

Here are quick scene ideas for five other trades:

  • Dentist: a clay tooth hides behind a toothbrush, then grins after a cleaning.
  • Accountant: a mountain of clay paper folds itself into one neat folder.
  • Gym: a clay couch gently tips its owner toward the gym door.
  • Bakery: clay loaves march in a little parade into a holiday box.
  • Realtor: a clay house waves a tiny "for sale" flag, and a key drops into new hands.

How do you test a claymation ad on Facebook or TikTok?

Test a clay ad by running it next to your current ad, to the same people, for a set number of days, and judging it on calls and bookings. No ad style is a sure thing, so treat the first one as a test.

Step 1: Pick one offer and one audience

Keep the offer and the audience the same for every ad in the test, so the video is the only thing that changes.

Step 2: Run the clay ad next to your current ad

Upload the vertical video to Meta Ads Manager (for Facebook and Instagram) or TikTok Ads Manager. On Meta, use the A/B test tool, which shows each version to part of your audience so nobody sees both, or at least put both ads in the same ad set.

Give both versions the same budget, as Meta recommends. As an example only, $20 a day for 7 days is $140 for the test, split evenly.

Step 3: Judge it on calls and bookings, not views

Let the test run its full 7 days. A cute ad can get plenty of views and few calls, so count the leads, calls or bookings each ad brings in and what each one cost you.

Step 4: Keep the winner and change one thing

If the clay ad wins, keep it running and try a new first scene next. If it loses, change the hook or the offer once before you give up on the style.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a claymation ad cost for a small business?

A claymation ad costs a small business about $16 a month in AI tools plus your own time, about $52 to $126 from a marketplace freelancer, or from a $1,000 minimum project at a stop motion studio. A done-for-you ad from 30 Second Productions is $97, often half price in our holiday sales.

Who can make a claymation ad for my small business?

Four kinds of maker can do the job: a stop motion studio, a marketplace freelancer, you with an AI tool, or a done-for-you team. 30 Second Productions is a done-for-you team. You fill in a 2-minute form and approve the script and scenes, and we make the ad with AI tools.

What is the cheapest way to get a claymation ad?

The cheapest way in cash is to make a claymation ad yourself with AI tools, at about $16 a month for a video plan and a voice plan. You do the script, prompts, retakes, voice and edit, so count your own hours too.

How long does it take to make a claymation ad?

A claymation ad takes anywhere from about a day to several months. Levi's hand-made Clayman spot took over three months for one minute, one Fiverr AI gig lists 3 days, and our clay ads are ready about 24 hours after you approve the scenes.

Do I own a claymation ad made for me?

Ownership terms vary by seller and tool, so ask before you pay. With 30 Second Productions you own the video and can use it in any ad, on your website or anywhere else.

Can a claymation ad show my real product or my face?

A claymation ad from 30 Second Productions will not show your face, because every character is clay and no real people appear. Your logo and offer go on the last scene. If buyers must see the exact product, a real product video is a better fit.

The short version

Your real claymation ad cost is cash plus your own time, and those two move in opposite directions. If you want real clay, use a studio; if you like editing, use a tool; and if you only want to approve the words and scenes, use a done-for-you team.
